One thing that makes Black Watch Griffons kennel unique among the rest is the training services and resources we provide to our new puppy owners and to our client dogs. Our training programs start at a young age, and allows the dog to develop a controlled drive in the field, making them a reliable hunter. To get this level of obedience, we train at the AKC Senior and Master Hunter level. 

Hunt Tests for Pointing Breeds were developed so people would have an opportunity to demonstrate a dogs ability to perform under actual hunting conditions. Judges should evaluate a dog's natural abilities as well as obedience traits obtained through the training. Testing also provides the owner a place to run and compete during the off-hunting season. In other words, the training and obedience we provide will make for a well-rounded hunting dog and companion. There are a few options we offer:

1. One-on-one scheduled sessions on our property in Illinois. 

2. Group sessions with similar levels of training (on private or local Illinois public all-year training grounds).

We offer stud services to interested breeders. Both breeding dogs must have current CHIC numbers and follow the AKC's Breeders' Best Practices. Please take a look at our Binding Stud Contract for all requirements.

For the past two years Russell and Arya have guided over 70 planted bird hunts for clients who have travelled as far as California. Newly added to the guide dog pack is our Black Watch Queen of the Hebrides SH MH, Islay. We have returning clients that specifically ask for our dogs each time. Most of our guides have been held at Oak Ridge Sportsman's Club, located west of Bloomington, Illinois, but service to other preserves around Central Illinois. We are always looking for new land to work our dogs and open to traveling. 

Obedience starts young and we know it can be a lot to handle at times. We will send and post short videos and tutorials on how to get through the various puppy stages and your preparation for field work. We know how critical the first six months of a puppy's life can be in creating healthy habits inside and outside of the home. If you are wanting to prepare your puppy for the next hunt season, there are many things you can be doing just after eight weeks old to ensure they are ready for field work. We also stress that you do a fair amount of research on the breed before you consider bringing home a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Their energy level and drive are not for everyone and the first couple years of puppy can be exhausting. New puppy owners must have the time to train their puppies around 10-15 minutes a day.
